About this item
- 50W DUAL-BAND MOBILE FOR LICENSED AMATEURS – High-power VHF/UHF mobile built for road and base use with 5W/25W/50W selectable output, a mobile-ready control workflow, and fast access to the functions you actually use while installed.
- APP-CONNECTED PROGRAMMING + CSV FLEET SETUPS – Program from the BTECH UV Programmer app (iOS/Android) over Bluetooth: edit channels, tones, offsets, and zones from your phone, then sync back in seconds. Import/export via CSV to clone templates for clubs, convoys, events, or multiple vehicles.
- BLUETOOTH HFP AUDIO + DATA MODES – Supports Bluetooth HFP audio for hands-free listening with compatible devices, plus Bluetooth data support for workflows like KISS TNC where enabled—built for modern “connected mobile” operation, not just keypad programming.
- BRING YOUR OWN BLUETOOTH AUDIO (VOX/PTT OPTIONS) – Pair with common Bluetooth HFP gear like vehicle Bluetooth and compatible headsets for clear listening on the move. Transmit using VOX (voice-activated) or with a compatible PTT option for quick callouts when hands need to stay on the wheel or on the job.
- GPS + APRS LOCATION TOOLS FOR REAL COORDINATION – Built-in GPS plus APRS features for tracking and position workflows in the field: smart beaconing, Mic-E support, improved ACK handling, destination settings, GPWPL upload, and custom location override for fixed sites or when GPS isn’t available.
- AI NOISE REDUCTION FOR VEHICLES + LOUD ENVIRONMENTS – AI Noise Reduction improves intelligibility on both transmit and receive by reducing wind, engine rumble, and background noise—so you get fewer repeats and less fatigue during long mobile runs.
- SATELLITE + NOAA + FM RECEIVER EXTRAS (MOBILE-FRIENDLY) – Satellite tracking tools help plan passes and operate smoother; NOAA alert monitoring keeps weather in view, and FM broadcast is there for downtime. Mic-first UI keeps key info visible for faster changes during day-to-day driving and base operation.

John L Wilkerson (KD8DVR) –
I got this radio; because I needed something more powerful and with the new AI Noise Reduction technology.
This is an Amateur (ham) radio and requires an amateur radio license to transmit. Frequency coverage is only on the 2 meter and 70 CM amateur bands. It is illegal to use this radio on GMRS! BTECH sells a similar radio for GMRS.
This radio is heavy for its size. It looks pretty durable. Good sized heat sink, as well as a fan.
Features include APRS, GPS, Satellite tracking as well as a KISS TNC for packet radio that connects to your computer via bluetooth.
Transmit audio is very good. With the AI signal processing turned on, it’s phenomenal. Receive audio is very good. With the AI processing turned on, it’s very impressive. Any static at all on a received signal goes away totally. A 90% noise signal turns into a full quieting signal! Now, it’s not advisable to use the AI with repeaters or the Bluetooth microphone connected.
The radio accommodates the BS-22 bluetooth speaker microphone.
Power output was measured into a dummy load. I got 54 watts output on 2 meters and 48 watts on UHF. Nice.
The radio is a bit pricey; but with all the features, it’s worth it in my opinion.
The cons:
AI noise reduction actually filters out repeaters. Unusable.
The microphone cord is much too short if you want to mount the radio under your seat in a mobile configuration.
All in all, a very impressive radio.
John L Wilkerson (KD8DVR) –
I retract my earlier statement about the AI noise reduction not working on repeaters. It works fine. It just removed everything except the human voice! Impressive!
Tom Widger (verified owner) –
I agree with all KD8DVR says in his review. One item of disappointment is the lack, or minimal at best, is documentation for this radio. It needs more information for us beginners. I was looking at an operators manual for a Yaesu FTM 510DR, very thorough and easy to understand all functions of the radio.
The UV50 Pro doesn’t even have an icon layout in the manual.
It’s a good radio, if there is an updated manual for this radio, I’d like to see it.

Travis Siegel –
Just got this radio yesterday, so don’t have a complete usage feel just yet, but I love the phone app to control the radio. Would prefer a volume knob on the radio, rather than trying to find the right buttons to press on the mic to change volume settings, but that’s a minor quibble. My biggest issue (at the moment) is that the manual claims it has voice prompts, but there aren’t any. I’m hoping this is my firmware version, (0.8.9) since the latest version seems to be 0.9.2 which I have yet to figure out how to install. Searches seem to indicate it can be done via the phone app, but I’m not seeing how.
Other than those issues, I really like the radio, and may wind up buying another one for use in the vehicle.
Programming via the phone is relatively simple, though I have yet to figure out how to switch between banks of channels (want 2 meter and 70 cm channels in separate groups). I can switch them via the app, but no idea how to do this on the radio itself.
I’m sure most of these issues will get solved as I get more familiar with the radio, so I’m not too concerned about any issues listed here except the voice prompts, since I’m a blind ham, and really find the voice prompts extremely useful when navigating saved channels on my various hts. (I have 16, 8 of which are baofengs), and the manual for the uv-50 Pro claims it should have them too.
