Channel List Overview
GMRS channels are setup in the standardized FRS/GMRS flow. Channels 1-22 are non-repeater channels coordinating with the GMRS channel list and channels 23-30 are GMRS repeater channels.

[Privacy Tones] You can mix and match tones for repeater usage. The GMRS-50X1 will save any modification to the channel (even during a reboot) and will remember any channel change you apply in any mode. All CTCSS and DCS tones are supported.
[QUAD Watch] The GMRS-50X1 operates as multiple radios in one, with a channel selected as the primary channel, while simultaneously watching up to 3 other frequencies or channels. You can simplify the radio to only watch one or two channels as well.
[FM, NOAA, and Scanner] The GMRS-50X1 has a built in FM radio along with the ability to store VHF and UHF scanner channels. This means while talking on GMRS - you can still monitor other channels on VHF or UHF including the NOAA weather bands.

I give the radio a 4 star rating because while it is a fine radio, it needs some tweaking. It would be nice to be able to program the same frequency repeatedly with different CTCSS or DTC codes. In my area there are numerious repeaters on the same frequency utilizing different tones. It is very difficult to reprogram the radio each time you want to change repeaters especially while driving. A dedicated progarmming software should be developed which simplifies the programming process for persons with minimal radio repeater knowledge.\
Otherwise it is a good radio performs well and provides good receive and Transmit audio.

I purchased this radio for GMRS on Amazon and using it as a scanner for other frequency. This is a great radio for its price range, but unfortunately I can not program the radio using CHIRP software to listen in on police, fire and EMS even though the radio frequency range is 400-520.99Mhz on UHF band. Other than that this radio is easy to program and has many features to use.

First let me say this; If you are wanting just the ability to receive and transmit on GMRS. This radio is probably the best radio you can buy at any price. It is ready to go as soon as you take it out of the box. You should learn to use CHIRP, as you can put your name and call sign etc. into the radio. Programing non-GMRS frequencies is much easier to do with the CHIRP software. CHIRP is a free download. URL link in BTECH website.
PROS: There are very few, 50 watt, GMRS radios available. This is one of them. This radio has one awesome advantage, and that is you can program non-GMRS frequencies. This lets you listen to any 2m/70cm Ham frequencies and well as many Search & Rescue, EMS, Fire, and a host of other frequencies that would be valuable in case of natural disasters or others. These are listen only frequencies. No matter, you will have important local information that most other GMRS radios available today, can’t give you. The GMRS operation is as perfect as you can get, with the exception of several Repeaters using the same frequency, with different CTCSS/DCS codes. This may be important to you, if you travel away from your local area.
CONS: As I have installed two of these radios in vehicles, the screen is very small and difficult to see. This would not be a problem if this radio is used as a base unit. The only other item that is missing is the voice prompt. When you are driving, it is difficult to move around the radios features without looking at the keyboard on the microphone. This is less than desirable. Voice prompt would be a good thing for mobile use. This is not a “no go” problem as you will get to know the radio and it becomes easier to use as you learn.

I agree with Dan above. This radio only allows transmit on 15 memory channels. This precludes us from adding multiple repeaters if the same frequency with different tone settings. Maybe this can be addressed with a firmware upgrade.
I knew this going in when I bought it but the price was right and I bought it for base operation. We don’t have that many GMRS repeaters in my area so this is not going to be a problem for me at this time period. My next choice would have been a competitor that was double the money. I just couldn’t rationalize it. This is a good radio it has good power it has good audio. I have paired it with a comet GP-6NC commercial antenna with excellent results.

It’s a good radio for a fair price, but basic functions like squelch need to be programmed using Chirp. Display is hard to see in bright sunlight and not the best reception due to the SOC design. Key feature deficiency includes only single code for repeaters and lack of programming for more than 15 channels to transmit, but not as important to me as reliability and good GMRS reception. Seem to get a lot of static during storms, but maybe that’s the norm, 50 watts to me doesn’t really make a big difference if you can’t hit the repeater nearby. I like BTECH a lot but there are better higher end radios available if you want to spend more $$.

It’s really a 38-40 watt radio (as per my sw/wattage tester). Good clear sound. Affordable. Pairs great with the 38″ Nagoya 200C antenna. But 50 watts should really be 50 watts. That missing 10 watts makes a big difference to me.

Ive been using this radio for about 3 months now. So far, So Good. No issues with the radio. Ive read a few reviews about poor reception due to the SOC design and architecture. I have not had that problem at all. I use this radio as a base station unit, with a Sirio CX-455 antenna. Simplex communications are crystal clear at over 30 miles and Im able to hit a repeater 50 miles away. Radio, Antenna and cable were less than $300, All-In. I would like to get into a Superhetrodyne unit, but its hard to justify the expense when this radio works so well.

GREAT RADIO!!! HAVE HAD IT ABOUT TWO YEARS. GMRS REPEATER TONES CAN BE PUT IN WITH BUTTONS ON MICROPHONE. BOUGH IT FROM AMAZON. SOME OTHER NETWORK MEMBERS HAVE THEM. ALL DO GOOD!!!
