DUAL OR SINGLE PUSH-TO-TALK SELECTABLE

The UV-82 Series come with a dual push-to-talk button. The dual PTT allows you to transmit on two frequencies by the use of the rocker push-to-talk switch. By pressing 'up' you can transmit on 'Frequency A' and by pushing down you can transmit on 'Frequency B'.

Frequency A or B can also be used as a scanner of channels, frequencies, CTCSS and DTS tones.

Note: The BaoFeng UV-82HP allows you to synchronize the PTT button to re-enable a single Push-to-Talk switch. This simplifies the use for those who require only one frequency to talk on.

SEE THE FULL COMPARISON CHART

The UV-82HP is a major update to the previous UV-82 model with firmware, hardware, and even packing upgrades (including a US Based Warranty program and support manual).

There are a variety of BaoFengs models in existence, but generally no differences exist. Some models are even re-manufactured units.

No matter the model number BaoFeng radios are based on one of these chipsets.

The UV-82HP is a upgrade from the UV-82 and UV-5R series with the addition of features, power levels, and the updated chipset revision that supports the High Power.

VERSATILE RADIO

The UV-82HP also includes: External Accessory Compatibility, FM Radio, Flashlight, Emergency Alarm.

The UV-82HP has one built-in receiver but can 'watch' two channels/frequencies (semi duplex). The UV-82HP will monitor both frequencies giving priority to the first station to receive an incoming call.

The UV-82HP supports CTCSS, DCS, and DTMF calling methods. Tone calling (private line) is required by most repeater applications and the UV-82HP supports the latest standards.

The UV-82HP can send DTMF tones. This allows for sending ANI (Caller ID) or remote commands that require DTMF tones.

The UV-82HP is able to Transmit on Narrowband (12.5kHz) and Wideband (25kHz).

BAOFENG UV-82 SERIES RADIO

The UV-82 series is BaoFeng's most commercialized radio series. Compared to the UV-5R and other previous series; the UV-82 radios come with a much louder speaker (1 watt), while other current BaoFeng radios use a 700mW speaker.

The UV-82 series radios also have a more solid case that employ larger buttons as well compared to the previous BaoFeng series. The UV-82HP uses the latest BaoFeng chipset and PCB board that outperforms the range, accuracy, and output of the previous BaoFeng chipsets.

It is not simply a remake but a new radio from the ground up.

All Good , altho not necessary I will be upgrading to a larger battery , I made a questionable upgrade with a antenna ( not sure yet ) , I think about getting a interchangeable mobile to base unit , The price of the UV82-HP is better than great , it is solid with large enough buttons , Thank You All

A good starter radio. Been using it since Oct. 2020. I would like to see on improvement to all BTECH radios like this suggestion. The 128 channels is very limiting on how many channel you can code into your radio.

I would add an micro SDXC/SD card reader into all BTECH radios so a user can have unlimited channels and future proof their purchase. Just add a new micro sd card when you have too many channels. This would not add too much cost to radios and might reduce the cost in the long run, since the end user could use their on micro sdxc/sd card for memory storage.

As it is said on “You Tube” the BaoFeng uv 82 hp, is far he best hand held two-way walkies I ever seen and not only the “best” world – wide, and then the size?? .. One would have to look at motorola secret service walkie and the try and compare the two is like comparing diamonds to plastic beads’ as the Baofeng uv 82 high power is the “:best” in the west and the east and every thing in between and am an owner of such, must say that all of these radios are far superiors as to any other radio that I have seen like “icom” midland, motorola., and many other radios that can’t hold a candle to the Boafeng uv 5r, the Boafeng uv 82 high power,, the uv 9 4 and the uv 10 mountain special all of I do posses. Beautiful and most efficient radio I ever owned and I been at using communication equipment now for about 35 years now and have seen many changes and these radios are a game changer

The Baofeng UV-82HP is the sleeping giant of the Baofeng line of 2-way radios. Everything about it is well thought out and superbly crafted. The transmit and receive lights on the top are located in places that are easy to see. The flashlight on top actually has a reflector and the battery pack on the back is one of the best designed I’ve seen. It snaps into place and is easily removed and attached. It’s also ergonomically designed to give the entire radio a sleek, contoured appearance.

The UV-82HP (High-Power) has all the features of the 82/82c, but has a bit more power (8-watts as opposed to 5-watts). The upside is that the extra power can result in a bit clearer signal at more distant locations. The downside is that it uses more power, and tests have shown that extra power does little to affect the signal strength; rather, the antenna length/quality, altitude, topography and buildings all have more to do with how far your signal will travel than the power of the signal. Thus, it may be more of a detriment than a plus. If you are transmitting via line of sight, then power may be a factor, but more tests need to be conducted.

The push to talk (PTT) feature is perhaps the crowning achievement of this radio. It’s not only a dual band, the PTT buttons (there are two!) on the side can transmit on both channels (frequencies) without your having to fumble around to manually change the channel. This makes it perfect for use by law enforcement officers, firefighter, paramedics, security officers and others.

The antenna is an SMA-female connector, which is pretty much a standard by Baofeng. People like to defame the stock antennas that come with these radios, but even though Nagoya NA-171/24J and other 15+-inch antennas do offer heightened performance, I’ve found that the stock antennas are far better than people give them credit for being.

The 82HP isn’t the size of a deck of cards, like the UV-5R, but it’s not a brick like some of the other radios. Instead, it’s contoured, being thinner on the bottom and becoming thicker towards the top.

Nearly all beginners start out with the UV-5R, which is natural, but the next step is logically the 82/82c/82HP. If you’ve never handled one of these great radios, pick up a couple. Inflation is rearing its ugly head and prices are going nowhere but up. Get in on this radio. You’ll love it!

This is an awesome little radio. I have a Yaesu ft-60, along with other baofeng ht’s. I had specific plans for an everyday carry radio and was looking into the Yaesu ft-65 to fit those needs. I decided to try the uv-82hp and it fills those needs perfectly. Just be sure and order from a reputable company like Btech. I also have the Btech 25×2 and the 50×2 mobiles. Both are great little radios.

Good interface, reliable, the larger batteries from Amazon last forever. I use my UV-82HP paired with the Nagoya 320A antenna for Search and Rescue and this radio holds up (for me, at least) in a torrential downpour or snowy 20-degree conditions.
Good transmit range- I was able to hit a UHF repeater over 20 miles from my house using the high power (8 watt) setting. This is a fantastic radio, I own 2 and hope to purchase more in the future. Thanks for producing good radios for a great price, Baofeng.

The true freedom radio because it is not locked down and operates in 136-174 and 400-520 MHz for both RX and T , great to have a multi-purpose radio suitable for ham, murs, frs, gmrs, etc…

Highly customizable and upgradeable with all the accessories for it. I refuse to buy a radio that is locked down at the firmware level, the UV-82 HP is not locked down. This is also compatible with CHIRP software. I consider this the nearly perfect dual band radio. If only it was waterproof, I do not know how it fares against rain. As for encryption, you can use the audio adapter cable to interface with a computer.

It actually is easy to use if you read the manual, and I love how this gives so much control to the user.

I have 8 of these UV 82HP radios. They work pretty well with the upgrade antenna. I like that they are programable. However, they could be a little tougher. dust is starting to accumulate behind the cover of the screen. Also the volume knobs are weak and sometimes get a little short in the speaker.

Basically I really love this model because it’s really user friendly. I have another set the earlier model before this and I usually switch between the 2 sets. I equipped with extended batteries for both sets and also using extended antennas Nagoya NA771 for both sets.

    Disappionted Customer

Yes the UV-82HP is my go to radio. It offers a lot for very little $$. The long extended battery (optional) makes it more professional looking and it lasts a ridiculously long time. Lots of great features but, all of these radios have the same problem the the manufacturer refuses to fix. If you are in a car and in motion, “only while in motion”, you’ll hear crackling when receiving a transmission. It’s not engine noise though, that’s been proven. If you stand still and wave the radios around in the air, the same crackling problem occurs on transmission. If they would fix this problem I’d give 5 stars, but not until then. It’s sad that bubble pack radios with way less options do not have that crackling issue. Please fix it, it’s been years and yet, no fix yet, very sad.

I’m on my third UV-82HP and I’ll probably buy more. This is always my go to radio because it has the option of the extended battery which lasts a very long time, even when put aside for extended periods of non use. It’s been years and I still have not had to buy a new one. The extended battery is the only battery I use. This radio is pretty slim, making it easy to keep in my back pocket or inside my jacket pocket. It’s the only Chinese radio I’ve seen that looks professional. It’s loud, so you’ll hear someone calling you even in noisy environments. Having three power levels gives you more control over your battery life. The only complaint I have is the crackling sound on RX you get while driving. Most Chinese radios do this. It’s not ignition noise. As soon as you stop at a red light RX is clean. I’ve searched the forums and was told to stand still and quickly wave the radio around in circles while getting an RX to see that the same thing happens being no where near a vehicle. So you get the same effect as if you were in motion in a car. I’d be willing to pay extra just for this problem to be fixed, but it’s been eleven years and nothing is done about it. But, at this price and its features I will still buy another.
