New Release – BTECH GMRS-PRO

Monday, August 1, 2022

The radio to make any GMRS user a ‘Pro’ is here.

BTECH is very proud to announce the release of the new BTECH GMRS-PRO, a premium 5W GMRS two-way radio that is designed for users to get the most out of their radio while still being backwards compatible with all other GMRS and FRS radios. Multiple users with GMRS-PRO radios can communicate via text message, send and request GPS locations, use SOS alerts, and more. When compared to traditional two-way radio use, it is easy to see the advantages of the GMRS-PRO.

  • Data over GMRS is silent
  • Message without any cellular service
  • Share your location while off-the-grid without any cellular service
  • The GMRS app is synced with the radio in real-time

Customize Your Radio

The GMRS-PRO is equipped with one built-in receiver that can monitor one or two channels depending on your preference, as well as programmable side keys that can be customized to several features including enabling dual PTT.

Bluetooth App

BTECH has also created a GMRS Programmer App that is available for download from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store which will allow you to further customize your BTECH GMRS-PRO in real time. Even though all radio features can be used without the app, the BTECH Programmer App makes the advanced features of the radio easy to access and utilize from your smart phone.

The GMRS Programmer App also allows you to download your trail maps ahead of time so you can access them when you might be out of range of cellular service. When enabled, you can track your location history and never have a problem finding your way back home.

Versatility and Power

This high powered 5W radio can send short data bursts to other GMRS-PRO users. Send short messages for free over GMRS channels without using data on your phone. Users can also opt-in to location sharing with other GMRS-PRO users.

Aside from all the functional upgrades, the GMRS-PRO comes with features you won’t find on other radios. With a built-in gyroscope and compass you can see what direction you are headed, what your current elevation is, and your traveling speed. From on-board radio menus you can display your longitude and latitude positions. That is some serious all-in-one versatility.

As with any good radio, the GMRS-PRO includes a NOAA receiver with NOAA alerts and an FM radio. If all the power and capabilities aren’t enough to sell you, the GMRS-PRO comes in a high grade IP67 waterproof case. Regardless of the harsh elements you may encounter, you can trust your GMRS-PRO will continue to allow you communicate. You can even submerge the radio in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes.

Take your radio game to the next level with the BTECH GMRS-PRO and never look back.

Soundsike a neat radio! To offer several meams of communication is awesome. We have 6 uv9r’s that we use on a regular basis. And 6 50×1 mobil radios. In conjunction with a 50watt repeater

I certainly hope you have a dual band Amateur radio version of this radio made. Also be sure there is an
AA alkaline battery case available for it so it will be useful in an emergency when the power is out.

Is it CHIRP programmable? If not, will you be working with the volunteers at CHIRP to get them samples to make it work with CHIRP?

    August 3, 2022 at 4:31 pm
    • BTECH Radios Reply

We always work with CHIRP on our products, due to the Bluetooth nature of the GMRS-PRO it requires programming by either our iOS or Android apps

The GMRS-V2 is a more ideal fit for programming with CHIRP

Can you use a data cable to send other data?
It would be really cool to see this work in conjunction with a higher powered base station.
Or maybe an attachment to decode the data on an existing base station?

is this radio able to text and send GPS data to the Garmin Rino series radios?

    August 18, 2022 at 6:53 pm
    • btech.radios Reply

No, they both use their own proprietary digital codec

      August 19, 2022 at 10:12 am
      • KO4VTM Reply

Will it be possible for you to reverse engineer the codec for backwards compatibility? I understand this one uses APRS “under the hood” but it’d be nice to be able to interoperate with Rino users if you need to.

The new firmware update seems to have disabled the gps location of other radios ?
We use to be able to “find near buy people” and have it come back with the other radio lat and long and heading.
But after the fitnware update this no longer works?

This is a great little radio but, it could be better. Hopefully, you will be taking suggestions and releasing new feature firmware. It needs a feature to turn of call tones separate from the button tones. It would be great if the apps (iOS and Android) had a cloning feature. We have about a dozen radios in a group that need to be programmed with identical groups and channels, button actions, etc. I shared channels once and a week and a half later, it took me over an hour of stumbling around between 2 phones and 2 radios to get the channels synced, and I can’t say exactly how I did it. I’ll work on that again this week to get it documented.
Lastly, for now, why in world would you produce a radio and not have a corded or, BT microphone available for it? Selling an adapter cable because it’s a non-standard connection is as crude, and dumb, as it gets!

Is there a way to lock the keypad? Using this snowmobiling, radio in a backpack with a speaker Mic on shoulder strap. Locking the keypad would be a handy feature.

Can it be paired to more than one device IE a phone and tablet. In the Side by side I would
want it connected to the tablet that’s mounted to the dash. And when hiking to the phone
without having to have it forget one device or the other and having to re-pair the device’s.

Data through Repeaters is not permitted, so it will only send via Simplex

Since the BTECH GMRS PRO has Bluetooth programming capability, I was hoping BTECH would un vail an Amateur Radio HT with Bluetooth programming. Also have DMR or NXDN a long analogue and the ability to monitor other services, such as Railroads. Many Class 1 Railroads are going to IDAS/NXDN. That’s only what I look for in an Amateur Radio portable.

Can you make my dream gadget? A mobile GMRS Pro, with turn-by-turn directions, and capable of running CarPlay and Android Auto.

Garmin’s “Group Ride Radio” is neat, but wildly overpriced, and MURS is unfortunately rare in the wild.
